ABOUT US

Communication Connection is a company created by Ron McKaye out of the need for product to be made available to the industry at reasonable prices. Communication Connection was formed in 1989 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Ron McKaye at that time owned, operated and was President of South Florida Telecommunications Inc., a prosperous paytelephone route, located exclusively in South Florida. He started his route in 1986 with Elcotel equipment, and was purchasing his equipment directly from the manufacturer. At that time he was paying around $1200 per phone for Elcotel Model Series 1 phones, and was having a problem affording phones at such a high cost, but at that time all potential paytelephone equipment sources were charging around the same price. It was turning out to be extremely difficult financially to keep up with the demand made available by this new industry. Ron then decided to do some homework by shopping around the trade magazines that were available at that time and calling fellow vendors and discussing with them their supply problems. He found out they were having the same problems he encountered, which was, being able to afford to grow. In 1986 the average cost to install a paytelephone, taking into consideration, the Phone, enclosure with pedestal, cost of installing the equipment and any Sales commissions was around $2000 to $2500 per phone. This was a major problem when considering that being a sole owner at that time, without any outside financing and trying to compete in a market made very competitive by the establishment, or the Larger Corporations entering the industry with more than adequate financing, was difficult. Ron realized that to be able to grow in the right way with his limitations, as was the same limitations that many vendors at that time were experiencing nationwide, was cost. How to decrease the cost per phone, per install. He started talking with other vendors and found that by locating used housings and puchasing the boards direct from the manufacturer that it would save you money. And he did just that. He also found a source that would make available their Out-of-Service housings. You just had to know when they were available and from what company, which took years of research to accomplish. Taking a used housing and refurbishing it in-house and purchasing circuit boards from the manufactures at large quantities, Ron was able to decrease his cost per paytelephone to between $600 & $700. This dropped his total cost per installation to under $1500 per phone. This also meant more phones installed for the amount of finances available to him and resulted in a self-sufficient growth pattern. It didn't take long for his company to grow at the rate he wanted, without an outside partner, or losing control of his company. After time, through his contacts, he was acquiring more used housings than he could use so he decided to make them available to other vendors that he knew. It didn't take long before everything that was available to the other vendors was gone. He then realized that this could turn out to be a good business by itself. Hence, Communication Connection was born. In 1991 Ron sold his route and moved to Crawfordville, Florida to expand his new company plus start a new route in the North Florida areas. It didn't take long for Communication Connection to make an impact in the industry. There were many vendors nationwide that were in the same predicament that Ron was in when he first stared his route and they realized too that a little good common sense can go a long way. A Good Service, Quality Product and a Reasonable Price can make the difference of being a paytelephone vendor trying to survive or being a paytelephone vendor surviving with a nice profit margin and a smile on his or her face. Communication Connection now sells and makes available to all their customers a large selection of new equipment at great prices. New complete phones now sell for under $600 with a full 2 year warranty. This means more money in your pocket $$$ where it belongs.
